Issue 236 outlined some of the ways we intend to reach our £5,000 fundraising target. If reading that has now prompted you to visit this group of pages... then welcome.

On the other hand, if you have just stumbled across these pages, perhaps with an idle curiosity over whether or not we would ever actually get this initiative off the ground... then you are equally welcome. And don't worry - you haven't missed much by not seeing the fanzine pages first!

As we progress, all the actual detail behind everything we are doing, plus the very latest news, will appear here first and foremost. The print version of AKUTR's will continue to outline our efforts.

Although we are kicking off with a number of initiatives, we fully expect to be adding all manner of extra things over the weeks and months. Already, we have been approached with one or two interesting ideas from people who want to get involved.

It costs a great deal of money to run a set-up that covers the whole of the United Kingdom - even with volunteers, it’s been calculated it costs a staggering £1,500 an hour to keep the entire network running. That’s £13m a year.

Our own modest £5,000 target - by our reckoning the price Flavio or Bernie would pay for a swanky dinner somewhere! - seems a drop in the ocean by comparison. But oceans are formed by billions and billions of tiny drops, and although ours is still only one drop in that, then… er, well… we’re sure you can see where we are attempting to go with that one.

We very much hope you will support our efforts and take an interest. This is an important challenge on so many levels. It’s as much about reinforcing the values of us, as QPR fans, as anything else.

As well as supporting us (hopefully financially!) and taking an interest, we hope you’ll join in, too. Believe it or not, it’s not all sackcloth and ashes. It’s supposed to be about having a bit of fun along the way.

Over and over again down the years, QPR fans have demonstrated that we stand out in our efforts and our values. Let’s do it one more time, eh? As we say, it’s important on so many levels... but no more so than in the name of our beloved QPR.

About integrity

It’s an appropriate place to make it clear here that every penny of profit raised will go to the £5,000 target. We are not just doing this in isolation. We are working closely with Sheelagh McCarthy, corporate fundraiser for Samaritans, and will be fully accountable, as well as auditable, to her and her team. Although we can’t imagine anyone wouldn’t trust us implicitly, it’s important to make that totally clear from the outset.

**STOP PRESS**

We are searching for a celebrity to run the 2010 London Marathon on behalf of Samaritans. There is a guaranteed place available. If that’s you, or someone you know, please get in touch, in complete confidence.
